Elizabeth (Betsy) Stoner
Dr. Stoner completed her Ph.D. at Florida International University with Craig Layman where she worked on understanding human-driven benthic jellyfish blooms and their effects on nearshore seagrass beds. She is now an Assistant Professor at Bentley University where she works with undergraduate students on exploring anthropogenic activities and their influence on community and ecosystem dynamics in New England salt marsh ecosystems, as well as conducting research on benthic marine organisms within sub-tropical seagrasses and mangrove forests (in Florida and The Bahamas). Dr. Stoner has also focused on STEM education research, working with students underrepresented in STEM to pursue research and learning opportunities, and engaging in inquiry-based experiences for non-STEM students to help advance their scientific literacy skills. During her downtime, you can find Dr. Stoner with her family (skiing, swimming, or doing any outside activity, ideally in the Adirondack Mountains), reading, cooking, or trying her hand at watercolors!
